Dance
autumn, spring, and summer
The Physical Education Department at Lode Heath School are a dedicated and passionate group of staff who are committed to providing the most opportunities for your child to achieve and develop both during curriculum time and extra-curricular clubs.
Dance is one of the rotation subjects, students will study the course for 8 weeks each academic year. Dance covers a broad curriculum which is tailored to individuals and groups; covering a range of genres and dance styles, from Capoeira, Charleston and the Haka; to Hip hop, Jazz and Rock and Roll. Year 7 students will study dances from around the world, year 8s will student dance through the decades and year 9 will draw on all previous skills learnt to focus on choreography.
Our KS3 curriculum is broad enough to give all students a taster of different styles and build key skills and techniques to prepare students for BTEC Dance but to also equip them with skills to continue with dance into life after school.
At KS4 students will only study dance if they pick BTEC dance as one of their option choices. The curriculum will build on skills learnt in key stage 3. We offer a Btec technical award in Performing Arts-Dance pathway. The Btec covers a wide range of topics and dance styles. The Btec Dance course combines written work and practical performances. Students will study different practitioners work as well as being taught the key skills involved in choreography.
